The pictures of the dancing pigeon are taken with the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6 IS USM while the other two are taken with the EF 70-200mm f/2.8L IS II USM.
The difference is markedly noticeable. The 100-400 is my latest aquisition and I bought it after a lot of deliberation but so spoilt am I with all the f/2.8 lenses that the moment I get one with slightly smaller max aperture possibilities, I dont like it. I reaise that the 100-400 is the best option for a long telephoto for me, unless one is willing to buy the 400mm f/2.8 or the 500mm f/4.0 prime lenses and sell a car to buy them, one still feels a bit disappointed not to get anything but razor sharp results from an L series lens. I am told in better light I will get markedly improved results (its monsoon and has been monsoon since I bought the lens) so we will wait and see. Till then . . . :-( |

I noticed you had a 100-400mm SJS...was just coming into this thread to ask when someone was going to post some pics - nice work!
This one's from a mate's bucks party last weekend in Barwon Heads. Has nothing to do with the party, but I wandered out in the mornings and late evenings and took some pics of the town. Just liked these birds together...

By the way today was also the day of my very first, ever, portraits. I have so far done only candid portraits catching people going about their everyday lives but today a very dear friend asked me to do a portrait of her which meant asking her to sit/stand where I wanted her to and then photograph her as she kept talking to the missus. I took six pictures, here are the ones I gave her . . . ![]()

I can only see the first one SJS...I like how you set it up with natural light from the window. What time of the day was it taken? The light on her face looks a little bit flat to me. Not sure if it was possible, but thought it might look nice with some of that soft afternoon light coming through the window.
