So true. Basically, if you want to know if you like it, don't bother reading reviews and just listen to it.

Some of the Silverchair stuff back in the day was okay. Lyrically very weak but very listenable, for me, obv.

Top notch obvious advice, you've got a career ahead of you at the NME.

Could've seen you digging The Decemberists actually, thought their kind of baroque orchestral acoustic dealy was your bag. I don't mind them myself, but after the way they'd been spoken of on CW I was a bit underwhelmed with Picaresque. Like a GCSE level Scott Walker album, but without the gorgeous baritone.

Everything, awesome band lyrically and musically. The Decemberists > Norway.

Often the case when you experience things after they are built up.

In Case We Die, easily their best. In my top 5 albums.

Yeah, some quality songs but feel they're on the verge of something great but not quite there yet.

Their baroque is just background fluff though, really - if I want baroque extravaganza I listen to Vivaldi or Rufus. The music isn't anything special as far as I can hear - it could be the weight of expectations, I s'pose - but really, things like

doesn't help. I genuinely can't see what's special and thus feel very underwhelmed by the whole thing.
