Crap songs by good bands

Ever felt embarrassed for an artist you respect when they come out with an absolute clunker? Time to name & shame, IMHO. I'll start the ball rolling:

Shiny, Happy People - REM
Octopus's Garden - The Beatles
Magic Pie - Oasis
Christina The Ashtonishing - Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds
Love is Strong - The Rolling Stones

Nah, quite like Shiny Happy People TBH, bit of poppy goodness for me, far better than something like Imitation of Life in my eyes. And as godawful Oasis songs go, nothing tops Champagne Supernova for me.

Find Counting Crows version of Big Yellow Taxi particularly painful.

Metallica - Until It Sleeps

In hindsight, looks a smidge better but still the song which killed the Met love for me.

Dream Theater - the whole album of Scenes From a Memory

After the song-writing steps the guys took on Falling Into Infinity, this album basically seemed like more of the same and subsequent abominable releases have confirmed the decline for me, the songs sounding less like showing off (which is good) and more like wallowing in wankiness (which is bad). Get Mike Portnoy out of the control booth!

It's a cover, but Golden Lights by The Smiths is pretty awful.

Kings of Leon - Revelry ~ stinkiest of a super disappointing album.
Lee, Ben - I Love Pop Music ~ he was always a very guilty pleasure, but this was ear slashing stuff.
Coldplay - A Whisper ~ only song from the first two albums that really annoys me for some reason.

Dirge, IMHO. The rhyming of "manner" & "St Anna" not Sir Nicholas's choicest coupling either.

Bowie's had a few real stinkers. Not quite sure how someone can go from writing beautiful songs like Letter to Hermione to something as dire as The Laughing Gnome; well, I do, it was all the drugs he was taking in the 60's, must have been particularly off-his-face when he wrote and recorded that tripe though.

Interpol - NYC

My love for some of their songs is balanced by my hatred at the boring goes nowhere nothingness of NYC.

Haha, seen you bang on about bad rhyming before. You must hate Michael Franti.

Hypocrisy Is The Greatest Luxury one of my fav twenty or so albums, actually.

Doggerel has its place in music too, but I just expect something better from chaps like Cave and hold them to higher standards.

Digging up a somewhat aged thread, but...

Tim Hecker. I love his work, his most recent album is not as good as the brilliance of Harmony in Ultraviolet but it's pretty good.
