I was surprisingly really happy with the list, I have almost all the songs.

Yeah I noticed that too UC re: Thrift Shop. Little Talks (92) and Breezeblocks (67) both made it though.

Yeah, suppose I better get a tent, I don't think the one I left in 2007 will still be there somehow. Saturday the clear highlight in that, though in fairness I think I'll manage to see a few bands accross all days, not to mention the random ones I've never heard of but my mates like.

Saturday's the highlight for me too (apart from Rammstein on Sunday of course - I rate the gig I saw at Nottingham last year one of the best I've been to - ever!!! And I've been a headbanger since seeing bands like Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Sabbath in my teens). On Friday I'll be taking in Uriah Heep and Dragonforce at the Encore Stage, but most of the time I'll be watching the main stage. Me and Number One Son are there all 3 days, but the Memsahib is only coming up on Saturday. I think she loves Iron Maiden more than she loves me.

<quack> She loves Justin Bieber more than she loves you, fatty </quack>

It's the one weekend I love living in Castle Donington.

Hope the extant Mats are all involved somehow; be a shame if it's just Westerberg and Stinson, T.

Although I think Slim Dunlap is quite poorly just now.

I love bands the The Arctic Monkeys because muso's hate them. Bunch of wags who can barely play their instruments write/record a cool album and it dominates. Tame Impala in a similar category and it happens often enough to bet on that those who diss them heavily play an instrument themselves/only listen to prog/have girlfriends who game with them and win by pressing only A. It's hilarious.

EDIT: Should point out that I feel the same angst about them but it's definitely out of pure jealousy. Plus they write bloody catchy tunes so who cares if they've had as many lessons as the homeless guy playing Hey Joe on the corner? Rock is meant to be that great leveller, the response to jazz and classical which says you're only worthy if you're formally trained.

Tbh Turner is a great songwriter and a great lyricist, and that's all that matters for me. He also has clear influences that he sets out on each individual album, which I think is great, the band never stand still.

Yep, and that's pretty consonant with my point; being a great song-writer/lyricist, literally something you can't teach in a Uni music degree. Same with being a great muso, tbh. I bump into so many guys with BMus. after their name who aren't quite good enough to play teh jass at a high level so get into other bands and assume they can do whatever style because it's technically easier. Playing said style convincingly, different matter altogether.

Being able to write catchy tracks is absolutely about talent and skills too. In the studio, that one decision to track an ultra-simple but awesomely catchy line is usually preceded by dozens of decisions about what didn't work. Takes serious nous.
