    For Brumbeh.

    SMITHS - PABLO CUCKOO/Corrected Speed - YouTube!

Not a Smiths fan but this was actually pretty cool, some sweet guitar work. They were so good so early, weren't they? No wonder they burnt out and pretty much don't speak to each other any more

    Cheers for that T_C.

Yeah, I know they're easily dismissed as bedroom bound miserablists & there is obviously a grain in that, but they were a properly great band too.

I think my thoughts on Steven Patrick are a metter of record and Marr is something of a genius too, but the drone Smiths were a ****ing tight rhythm section & remarkable musicians in their own rights too, especially Rourke who's just an unbelievably good bassist. I think The Headmaster Ritual, which is pretty much a taut extended funk jam, is his finest moment.

    Funk? Really?

Cool song, but. Digging more on The Smiths as I get older which is weird considering how they're more about youthful angst.

Ah, no, fudge. I'm getting me Smiths' songs about corporal punishment mixed up, which I'm sad enough to be mildly perturbed about.

I meant Barbarism Begins at Home, which, whilst not being Geroge Clinton, has distinctly a funky flavour.

Ah, yep. Definitely a touch of f0nk about it, about as much as permissable in 80's alternative (Girls on Film comes to mind when I listen to it). Some nice axe work again too, probably the least funky part of the song (arpeggios and funk = generally a huge N-O) but very inventive.

Just amazing. They played "Sunday Morning" to open the show. 12 minutes of low tempo beauty. Not a noise was made in the audience. Powerful band.

I've had Paul Kelly's newest album for a few months. Initially I was a bit meh about it, nothing stood out much etc.

But it's grown on me a lot. It's got great warmth and genuineness (if you like that kind of thing), and it's a great album, better than the sum of its parts.
