How about we rearrange this. How about you give me an ulcer and I'll blow your face off with a shotgun?

Judging by what's happening in South Africa right now, I don't trust your shooting abilities.

I am only slightly bigger than a soccer goal, it's rare that you'd come within 40 yards of me.

But you're American. This makes you obscenely fat and hopeless.

I think you've shot more people with "friendly fire" (ohai mister bullet gud 2 c u) than enemies tbh

I don't know what you're talking about. We clearly won in Vietnam. America doesn't lose. We left that country because we were tired of winning so much.

Yep. And the fastest thing in WW2 was not a French tank in reverse.

That's patently untrue - the fastest thing in WWII was the speed of the French soldier after abandoning said tank.

I see this phenomena usually happen with 'The Fountainhead', 'Atlas Shrugged' and LOTR, not 'A Portrait'. It also is perfectly acceptable to have your opinion about the quality of James Joyce's writing though I cannot fathom how anyone can think that way. Also calling out people for 'fountainhead-ing' books is epic fun.

I liked Inferno but only read it because I wanted to read what inspired Niven and Pournelle's Inferno..

I think that's the closest I've come to reading anything lit fic in my life..

Just like to throw my 2 cents in...read "A Portrait", found it a chore really...although tbh that was in the week leading up to an exam and I'd left myself something like 7 literary classics to read in their entirety in 7 days, so yeah, it would feel like a chore.

I don't really enjoy art in an aesthetic sense, per se....in fact I think the notion of "appreciating an aesthetic" tends to lead to a very dangerous glorifying of inanity that is pervasive in our society, but that is another debate and another set of buzzwords altogether...

I should read more really, but only because the people around me perceive me as somewhat "intellectual" and hence I feel obliged to, when in reality I have no particular desire to read. I only really want to read when it seems that a book might in some way encapsulate or elucidate my world view, which funnily enough a fair bit of literature apparently does.

tbh I read "American Psycho" and straight up felt like someone had already written my book for me (thematically and in terms of my literary "voice", not in terms of rape and what-not) and I'd never need to read another book again.

Read "Catcher in the Rye", which I was supposed to enjoy, and found it to be a boring, watered-down American Psycho which was immediately forgettable.

Forgot what point I was gonna make here tbh, but hey, I said some stuff about books.

Found both American Psycho and Catcher in the Rye pretty overated and monotonous tbh.
