    The buying a computer thread

I just spoke with a cousin yesterday who spent about $1000 more than he should have on a computer, and spoke with someone online who got something he wasn't looking for. Since I do a lot of computer acquisition for my company and build a lot of them myself, I thought I'd start this thread and people can ask if they are thinking about buying/upgrading their computers.

Don't overspend! Make sure you do research before buying, especially from corporate sites like Dell or Gateway!

Thankfully, I have the type of job that can't be outsourced, even if I was staying in this career, it'd be pretty good job security.

My advice to anyone buying a computer now is: unless you need to do gaming, get a Mac!

Looks like I'll need to be buying a new computer somwhere in the near future. I think all the 100s of times I have CBF switching it off properly and just kicked off the switch have screwed it and now it just gets some stupid blue screen error when I start it up.

Well, that would most likely be a hard drive issue, and probably not hardware as well. A reinstall of windows would probably fix that, and at worst, a new $50 hard drive would do it (assuming the problem is because of what you say it is).

    Myth.

I'm no Mac fanboy. I own one but I prefer Linux to anything else (mainly because I like to tinker). Still, The Mac is pretty impressive.
