Are you proud of your country and it's history?
Self explanatory really. Despite Britain's faults and some of the things its done we were once the most powerful nation in the world we once controlled the biggest empire in history and even know we are a very powerful nation, we have (I think) The most powerful currency in the world and definitely amongst the superpowers (Which you could count us as). I'm not proud of our mead-lings in the middle east at the moment but I'm glad we never got involved in Vietnam. We have an incredibly strong military so all in all I'm proud of being British, but what do other Brits (Or Aussies, Yankees, Kiwis) think of there country.

Not really. We produced some ****s who could write a bit, some ****s who could sail boats pretty well, and some ****s who went onto other people's land and took it from them. That's about it, isn't it? Inventing cricket was a plus, though.

Definately. Looking back on history however only makes me more embarrased by the shambles we've become. One of the forefront countries when it came to democracy and equality (sounds odd considering the empire we had, but its true), a strong voice on the rights of man, now a bleeting sheep that bullies its own people and succumbs to outside pressures.

Even when it was important it was stupid. An anarcho-syndicalist commune, where everyone takes it in turns to act as a sort of executive officer for the week but all the decisions of that officer have to be ratified at a special bi-weekly meeting, would be much better.
Monty Python rox, btw. |

Despite the population and the ridiculous politics, India's progress is something every Indian should be proud of.

I would say 'proud' in the sense of 'not ashamed' tbh - Britain was certainly not the only country to have overseas territories in the 15th - 19th centuries - most western European countries did. And as for the slave trade - a shameful episode, for sure, but let's not forget it was other Africans who sold the slaves to the Europeans. The guilt should be shared around. And I don't hold with the calls to pay 'compensation' to people who weren't affected by it in any way.
