    dropkick contest in rwc

I just read that a drop kicking "shootout" type thing will be used to decide knockout games in the rugby world cup. 10 players will have a shot at goal.

I think it's a terrible idea, a final shouldnt be decided on that. at least in football (where it still sucks) it is a more relevant skill.

i think it should be extra time until theres a winner in such a big occassion.

otherwise its a irrelevant, hell they could have a catching contest, one on one chip and chase... or place kicks... or the best touch finder wins the world cup...

no place for this in world cup... in my opinion anyway...
life's a gift thats why they call it the present

The chances of it coming in are miniscule though - needs to be level on 80 minutes (how many Rugby games end like that?) and have no points in Extra Time.

incorrect marc. they have to be equal after 90 minutes, equal after 20 mins extra time AND equal after sudden death(in which n e team to score n e points first wins). so like marc stated it's EXTREMELY hard not to have a winner before drop goals. and i think they would just add to an obviously already exciting game(must be if it goes to drops). also the players all so far seem to like it.

That would just penalise a side for either not playing enough minnows or not scoring 20 tries against a minnow though.

I heard about this on the radio the otherweek..can you imagine a prop forward having to take the deciding kick for the World Cup final? no way..its a joke.

The IRB said they are trying to make comparisons for football, but in football every player can kick the ball whereas there is no way you can expect a forward to drop kick the ball from way out on the sideline.
