Right, im only 9 hours in so it might be a bit early to say this but, is this game too easy? Died a couple of times, but was shocked to see the retry button... whats the point of save points?

Haha, dire. Shouldn't be to the detriment of the game too much imho, but still, removes the element of pressure that previous incarnations had.

Having recently finished 7, can confirm that 13 is far more "accessible" to new fans of the series. It isn't proving a detriment yet though, really enjoying it so far. 4 hours down so far.

The worst part about the retry option is that it starts you just before the battle, so you can change your equipment, or whatever. Or even just run away.

I played FF6 till about halfway through last week and then cbf to do anymore, having a crack at Golden Sun at the moment to pass the time.
