I think itís probably better than Dark Souls. Combat is more satisfying when you get it right.
Replaying it a second time without going hard mode, I find that most bosses are actually very easy if you have the strategy down. The only ones that are giving me a hard time are the Snake eyes mini-bosses and Owl. I feel I can take take down even the final boss in 2 or 3 tries now but for some reason I can't for the life of me figure out a way to defeat Owl consistently. Every time I beat him, I feel like I lucked out and don't want to do that again unlike the others.

I didnít have too much trouble with the Snake Eyes. Owl was pretty tough but I found the final Genichiro+triple Isshin hardest by far. Though when I did finally do it I lost almost no health. Itís sort of easy when you donít make mistakes. When you mess up once in a fight you give yourself a bunch more hard decisions to make.

Tbf I lost an embarrassing number of times to the sword saint and I think in number too I must have died to him the most but somehow you learn things throughout the fight that makes it an investment that when you finally get it right you can do it again and again. Owl is unlike that and maybe I dislike the fight because the slippery ****er is tedious and I could beat him by just running around him incessantly but that's no fun. Isshin the glock saint is the hardest boss to beat but also my favourite because of just how super aggressive and intense it is.

Haha I would just run around him. From Soft games are all about finding loopholes to beat seemingly-invincible bosses imo.

Thanks, that actually sounds good. I'll check it out.

Many years too late, but I'm finally beginning to play Borderlands 2 in anticipation of the upcoming Borderlands.

Slogged through the first one a while back but never got into it enough to finish it. This one has me pretty interested (although it's still early days in the story).

CK2 absolutely falls into your 'bunch of addons' caveat (technically you can 'unlock' Vikings with only 'The Old Gods' expansion, albeit for a complete viking experience there are other expansions you'd want) but is by far the standout game I've played for letting you roleplay as vikings (or whoever, really), rather than your choice of culture being a slight variation on a map-painting theme

That sounds like something I'd like to see more of. Every time I start a new game of Stellaris, for example, even if I try something funky with empire creation, I still know roughly the optimal way to build fleets, develop planets etc. Having the option to randomise certain aspects of gameplay (the extent of the relative pros/cons of different ship types for example) so that you've got to experiment a bit in every game you play is probably something I'd absolutely love.

Thinking of Stellaris in particular, have you played it since the 2.0 (2.2 maybe, I lose track) update? Tbh it hasn't really changed in terms of the things you didn't like about it, but it has had some pretty signficant reworks which might coincidentally appeal to you.

I played it when it was the humble subscription game of the month. I could see the care and scope of it but art the same time that's what put me off. It's too big. I'm looking to play a game, not run the United States.

Stellaris isn't that big IMO. Kind of shallow end game honestly. Everything ends up being about choke points which is kind of lame IMO.

    The game is fantastic IMO.

The voice-acting is especially heinous, though. Seems like most of it was done in one take, some of the direction is absolutely abysmal.

I'm only in the 6th chapter and the story has been fine enough but can't comment on its resolution. If it's anything like X I'm sure it has some nonsensical twists and turns coming.
