yeah assumed most of the surfing places would be super cheap, done a couple of those where outside of getting there and accom it basically costs $5 a week for rice and that's that. I always seem to blow out my budget when I go anywhere though. Good luck!

Had a Thailand trip planned in June, flights and hotels all booked. With the coup and the curfew we're thinking of cancelling everything. So dire.

Off to the airport in four hours. Farewell guys. I'll try pop in every now and again with a Seinfeld reference or an appropriate Limp Bizkit quote

Where in Thailand are you going? As far as I know, as long as you're not planning a long stay in Bangkok you should be fine. The curfew has just been lifted slightly too, now runs from midnight to 4am, so the nightlife will begin to get back up and running. Give Richard Barrow a follow on Twitter, seems to be suggesting it's not too bad in Thailand atm, and there are still plenty of tourists.

Thanks all for the advice, If only I had checked back before taking off. Ended up doing Chicago and stayed in Near North side. Chicago was nice and all, did some touristy stuff (Field Museum is epic) but 3 days nowhere near enough time. From the above it should have been San Fran instead (although mrs ripper has been there before, which became the determining reason for Chicago). Also went to a Blackhawks v Kings game, which was decent, but not at the same level as NYR at MSG. Had some great food but overall I think we missed the point of Chicago, certainly felt safe the whole time.

NYC and Disneyworld and the engagement party were all tops. Back at work now, which is hectic - people seem to forget I wasn't at meeting X last week and therefore don't know what the new strategy is.

Bangkok for a couple of days. It's only the curfew we care about, I really didn't want to start making my way back to the hotel at 9pm in order to be back by 10. At least now it's midnight so it's not that bad. Thanks for the link btw.
