    Been in Paris this weekend.

Thought it was fine. There were some nice buildings, and lots of people/noise/pollution.

It's dawning on me that I just might not be a city person.

Snowy low population village in the mountains with high speed internet, minimal political creep, zero interference by govt or mega corps and a long term professional assignment with no bosses (book contract/research assignment etc.) is the dream.

The only place I can think of with all of the above (even a police station is a couple of hours away) - Internet is an issue, even though a couple of hotels have managed to get private wifi connections.

I still love the place (Tosh) though and visit it once or twice a year - modernised enough for getting the latest utilities/confectionaries (thanks to the Jews living there) but built in such a way that using any vehicle apart from a bicycle is impossible there. It’s located near several mountaineering base camps as well. It also has some of the best handrolled hashish in the world,

This is a pic of the village from the guesthouse’s balcony on a recent trip:A0368F10-AB97-49A5-B643-FC321D2E10F3.jpg

Isnít it enough to see that a garden is beautiful without having to believe that there are fairies at the bottom of it too? Ė Douglas Adams

Haha a rat's nest is nicer than London, but you make a very good point.

That's partly because there are a lot of Englishmen in London.

There are some areas where you do well to spot one.

In Greece now. Fortunately in the middle of nowhere, but had to transit through Athens. Another snake pit.

Haha Athens is awesome. Complete shambles but a great town. If you get a chance, go to Nafplion down on Peloponnese, and check out Mycenae on the way. It's brilliant.

Yep. When I was there it was hot af and the stench of BO in public transport was horrendous. Almost as bad as Indian public transport.

Oh and if you're ever in Athens again take a look at peoples feet. For some reason everyone's got cankles there. Weird phenomenon.

Also, if you go to Athens and don't do a sunset at the Temple of Poseidon at Cape Sounion, then you suck.

Haha have been to Athens a few times tbf. But I quickly learned that the best part of it, as is the case with most cities, is leaving it.
