Despite the controversies that he got involved in, you have to give credit to him for being a trend setter.

But then, I don't have idea about his participation in his songs' music, lyrics and videos as they completely overshadowed his vocals, which were terrible and at times sounded like that of a woman. If he simply sang his songs and his involvement in the other departments was minimal, then I won't rate him among the greatest pop artists. But as an entertainer, yes, no one has come close to him.

No way.

Despite his personal issues MJ is the greatest entertainer the world has ever seen. Some of his concerts in the 80s were magnificent and he really put stadium gigs on the map and allowed other acts such as The Rolling Stones and U2 to follow with massive gigs.

Such a shame he's a freak, because he's a musical genius, he actually wrote most of his solo stuff and that cannot be said for a lot of solo 'pop' artists.

As a musician I agree he trumps Elvis easily. But as a pure showman, I'd put The King Of Rock&Roll ahead of The King Of Pop. MJ's concerts in the 80s (and with his brothers in the 70s) were fantastic, no doubts whatsoever. But Elvis' in the 50s and 60s were probably even better, IMO, just obviously less well and regularly recorded.

Well you can't quantify it, it's a MOO, there's no "points" you can really rate someone as a showman.

It's hardly the most important thing ever, TBH, but Elvis was, to me, the original and the ultimate musical showman.

And Elton John is damn good too - and, unlike MJ, has retained his capacity well into middle-age.

In the case of Sinatra, I must confess my complete ignorance. Anything before about 1955-1956 (Mozart, Tchaikovsky, Haydn, Elgar et al aside), I've never taken great note of.
