Netflix probably understand the value of their product and how many eyeballs it draws than any other production house. It had a good run.

It really warms up towards the end. Worth it imo.

Yeah it's not golden years Simpsons or Futurama but towards the end it feels like it may be able to get there. First episode is very rough though IMO.

Yeah, it definitely seems to be doing that. We watched the Hansel and Gretel episode last night - easily my favourite one so far.

Fair enough, housemate watched through it all (its far more his cup of tea than mine) and said it wasn't really worth the effort.

Yeah I made a comment to a friend about halfway through that I enjoyed the jokes, references and general humour - perhaps unsurprisingly as a big Futurama fan - but that the attempt to engage the viewer in the overall story arc had completely missed the mark. I essentially felt the main story was just low effort context for amusing gags at this point. By the end I'd completely changed my mind on that - - not only are the latter episodes much more interesting outside the gags, but they actually make the earlier ones so too, even if just in hindsight. It seems like it isn't going anywhere in the middle but it definitely is.

Good to hear. I watched the first few episode with a couple of big Futurama fans, and there wasn't a single laugh. The style of humour is awfully broad, the timing of the jokes is terrible, and the characters seem like dull retreads of the Futurama cast. But around about episode 5 I think, I noticed things starting to sharpen up, and I keep hearing good things from just about everyone who watches it, so might give it another try. Having said that - even if it does turn around in the second half, that doesn't excuse such an awful opening.

Re: The Good Place - never could get into it. Watching it for any sustained period of time always gave me a toothache.

The Good Place is great, but one of the caveats for it go from "ehh alright" to "holy **** this is great" is to finish the entire first season, which can understandably be a big ask if you aren't fully invested a few episodes in.

I did finish the first season (over several attempts), still just couldn't get into it. Came back and watched the first 2 episodes of the next season, and promptly lost interest again. I see the appeal, the cast is good and there's the occasional interesting bit of pop-psychology discussed. But - and this is the most fundamental thing - it just doesn't make me laugh. Not for me.

Chidi generally makes me laugh, and Eleanor makes me laugh at almost any reference to Tahani being tall and beautiful. Michael is probably my favourite character though, that dude is great.

Started watching it on Monday and there were definitely episodes I just blanked through but the ending of the season was great. A pleasant surprise.

Started it earlier today, had it on my watch list for a few weeks now. Needed something easy 20 mins whilst I had tea. Didn't make me laugh but theres enough there to give it a series.
