Hmm, shouldn't a good show be good enough to stand up on its own merits without merely relying on shock value?

Knowing what's coming has nothing to do with it, I reckon. Didn't say I wasn't enjoying, just finding it a meh having to suspend disbelief a bit more often than in prior seasons.

tbh, as I said earlier, I found the season 4 finale to be fairly disappointing, especially since the ep before it was an utter cracker. The season is still really solid but not reaching the heights of previous for mine.

EDIT: The first 5 and last 5 of every ep still pretty good, though.

Sure but often the difference between a show being good and great is amazing endings or not knowing what the hell is going to happen next. See Sopranos, see The Wire, and Breaking Bad is no different.

Anyway I was just teasing TC. Just don't understand why he continues to read posts about BB a season ahead. Avoided The Wire thread like a plague here when I was watching, same with when I was behind an ep or two of Mad Men. Each to their own though.

Once mankadded to get a hat trick when playing indoor cricket. Dead set.

Footage was caught of my celebration.

My thoughts on the latest season have been pretty similar. Still like it but were a lot of problems, more so than in previous seasons. Anywhere I've posted about it I've been shouted down though, so whatever. Inevitable when a decline in quality coincides with a rise in popularity.

Any thoughts on the Emmys so far? Modern Family doing well, by the sound of it. Never really got into that show.

Awesome to see Julia Louis-Dreyfus win for Veep! She's hilarious in that.

Veep is good, but I don't know about emmy worthy (though Dreyfus is excellent and if it was going to win one, that's the category). Breaking Bad got shafted. It's insane that Homeland won out over Breaking Bad.

Aaron Paul deservedly won for supporting actor, but man, Gus got shafted. Cranston should have won again, it's obvious and he's won multiple times, but damn. Julianne Moore was AWESOME in Game Change, and I think the clear cut winner there.

I think outstanding directing in a comedy series should have gone to Louie for Duckling.

The Daily Show is The Daily Show - Stewart just continues to be on fire.

The current season of Louie will absolutely DOMINATE next year's Emmies. If it doesn't, then it will be a ridiculous.

Must admit I haven't seen Hatfields & McCoys, but I was surprised to see Costner win that award ahead of both Cumberbatch and Elba. The latter two were exceptional.

I love Breaking Bad and I do agree it deserved to win, but I don't think it's outrageous that Homeland won. That's an exceptional show with terrific acting and storytelling. I think it would've been fair if any one of Breaking Bad, Mad Men, or Homeland won.

So stoked that Breaking Bad lost. To Homeland as well; epic result.

I was hooked from the first episode. The whole "soldier that may have been turned" angle was interesting to me from the start. Claire Danes' manic performance has been so brilliant (and matched perfectly by Damian Lewis' reserved acting style). If you didn't like the first few episodes, then I doubt you'll get into it even if you watched the rest of the series. It's not like The Wire, which starts slow and builds up.

Anyway, as I said, I prefer Breaking Bad but thought Homeland was a worthy winner.
