Well he's right in the sense no fight actually took place at Moscow, the Russians had retreated and destroyed most of the stockpiles in the city. The winter came and the French got owned while retreating by constant demoralising raids to the rear. Yet IMO this is the 'battle' that stopped the French.

    Forget Wellington, all general Winter.

Wasn't taking a shot at him, was said in jest.

The Russian tactics at Stalingrad of "when your mate dies, you take his gun" were pretty brutal IMO. That was a good battle.

And I stand by my vote for Mallard vs Henare of course.

Thing with Stalingrad is that the Russians pretty much let the Germans think they were winning when all the while they were holding back a load of reserves for a counter attack, which encircled the 6th Army in Stalingrad and then destroyed it.

That's a campaign though. Berezina is the one everyone knows from that campaign, French had to cross a freezing river, French engineers basically killed themselves by getting in the river in order to build the bridge, French just about survived but loads died etc. Borodino was before it and after the Russians lost that they did the retreat tactic which worked suprisingly well.

Battle of Cartagena de Indias in the wonderfully named War of Jenkins' Ear: Linky. Sadly we came second.

Battle of Fort Bowyer from the Anglo-American War of 1812-15: Linky. We dicked the Yanks in this one.

    - As featured in The Independent.

"The committee discussed the issue of illegal bowling actions, and believed that there are a number of bowlers currently employing suspect actions in international cricket, and that the ICC's reporting and testing procedures are not adequately scrutinising these bowlers."
    - Even the ICC's own official press release thinks things must change

    Literally did too.

If the whole campaign doesn't apply then I think I'll withdraw it, most of the greatness was in Russia's scorched earth policy and in managing to gnaw the French so persistently.
