Just had two people sacked at work for taking the piss out of some stuff in the bible.. Okay they were in the wrong, but it just seems like a massive over reaction, but thats human nature at the moment to be honest..

Mind you, in that teacher's case, I hope she realized that Sudan isn't Paris in the spring before she set off.. Not cool

The spokesman said the naming of the teddy happened months ago and was chosen by the children because it is a common name in the country.

"This happened in September and the parents did not have a problem with it," he said.
I trust they're going to whip the kids and parents too?

Haha, so ridiculous. People need to grow the hell up. But its their country - they can make it into a fascist fundamentalist wonderland if they so choose.

This reminds me of the Mohammad cartoon controversy. My own university newspaper, in freaking America, was given not-so-subtle threats by college students going to my school when they were going to print those cartoons.

So a bunch of kids got together and made t-shirts out of those cartoon and wore it around the university for a while.

And those idiots that wore the t-shirts were even more stupid than those idiots that threatened the papers.

Backwards and stupid but as SS said they can do what they want.

My issues are when it impinges on the lives of people (ie me and those around me) in supposedly secular societies.

Hardly surprised really. Those kind of countries are pretty backwards when it comes to religious stuff, and the supposed 'insult' of naming a teddy bear Muhammad.

Not surprising, the concept of a religion is itself backwards, rather than the application of it in certain countries.
