Pratyush, I did see that, but I wasn't sure if you had actually listened to it. |

This probably doesn't fit anywhere near the songs that have been discussed here but i thought i would add this as i thought it was pretty good although i didn't understand a single word.

The only music I really enjoy from the subcontient are Gazals. Unfortunately, most of the urdu ones go right over my head, but all suggestions are welcome (I already own all the albums for Jagjit Singh, Fateh Ali Khan, Udhas, etc).

Jagjit Singh is obviously one of the best Ghazal singers with a great voice. If you find the urdu poetry too heavy try some of his lighter stuff, which he has done a lot compared to others. Some of those albums are 'Face to Face', 'Love is Blind', 'Hope', 'Mirage', 'Marasim', 'Unique' , 'Insight', 'milestone' etc. You can also try his ghazals from Indian movies like 'Arth', 'Saath Saath'. |

Yea, I mix the two and like both. In terms of heavyness, it's mostly a lack of understanding of 'high' Urdu. When two Pakistani guys speak Urdu, it's just like Hindi. But when they sing it in Gazals, I have no idea what the hell they are saying.

Yeah he's done ghazals, plenty of them. In fact some of his more famous "qawwalis" were really ghazals IMO. |

That said, I think that is the beauty of Ghazals, apart from the music the sound of the word is so beautiful that even if you dont understand the actual meaning you still want to hear it. Btw what is that ghazal in the link..Cant access youtube.
