My alltime favourites have to be Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan(love his blend of eastern & western music),Kishore Kumar,Mukesh,Munna Day & Muhammad Rafi.I'm a big bhangra fan & like what Daler Mehndi,Hansraj Hans,Jazzy B,Sukhdev,Harbhajan Maan etc produced at their peaks.I like Kumar Sanu,Jagjit Singh & Pankaj Udhas also.Amongst the singers of today,Himesh Reshammiya has to be fair bit above others but I admit that likes of Atif Aslam,Bombay Vikings,Junoon,Kunal Ganjawala etc are also pretty good.

I quite agree with you about Ghoom Tana and Hangama esp Hangama. Also I was very dissapointed with Jhoolay Lal, music of which rocked btw but somehow the song didn't connect for the first part....only in the second part of the song..they getback to being Junoon..and then it rocks.

Have you heard Jhoolay Lal by Nusrat btw? Love that... And I really love Nusrat Fateh Ali's work as well. BTW have not heard much of Junoon before except two-three songs. Will try them out...

Any one suggest some good qawwali stuff apart from Nusrat and Rahat? I don't know if the traditional very old qawalli is available and would love to try some of it...

Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan was great and took qawwali to a new level but IMO Sabri Bros. were the ultimate qawwals ever. Try Abida Parveen as well if you ever get a chance.

My knowledge of Indian pop music/film music is extremely limited. Actually, my knowledge of Indian music is limited, period.

However, I'l throw a few Pakistani names around.

Nusrat
The 'Ustad' Gharana
Vital Signs
Ahmed Rushdi
Mehdi Hassan
Hassan Jahangir
Naseem Begum
The guy who sang 'Sona Na Chandi Na Koi Shehr Jan-e-man...' - I can't believe I forgot his name
Junoon
Aaroh
Fuzon (or Fusion, or whatever - been a while since I listened to 'em)
Fakhir
Awaz
Nadeem Jafri
Jawad Ahmed
Abrar Ul Haq
Abida Parveen
Ata Ullah Eesa Khan Khailwi

etc.

By the way, anybody a fan of the 'Mein Sharabi' qawwali?

(My favourite Nusrat stuff is 'Yeh Jo Halka Halka Suoor', 'Mast Nazroon Se' and 'Afreen Afreen' [ten minutes version])

I think my favourite Junoon performance/recording is their cover of 'Lal Meri Pat' performed at Central Park, New York City.

Haha, I chose my CW nic because I was listening to them when registering and couldn't think of anything better. They're a good band. I like their fusion (yeah I'm shameless) of classical style with modern pop.

Heh, why am I not surprised.

Seriously though, the build-up in that performance and the climax are just out of the world stuff.

What's your favourite Fuzon song?

Khamaj. I love the voice range of the lead singer in this song. Such soft, beautiful melody.
