yeah i remember feeling incensed initially when this came out.........Nusrat Fateh Ali's dam mast qalander stood ruined........

I don't think Nusrat himself minded. This was the song that brought him "mainstream" attention in India and opened the door for him to sing/compose music in Bollywood.

It is the same song. In 90s every qawwali of the great NFAK was copied into a Hindi song. I hated it mainly because the music directors claimed the songs as their own composition.
