Have been listening to some old Hindi songs lately.

Love these two in particular.

YouTube - Aarti Mukherjee - Do Naina Aur Ek Kahani - Masoom [1983]

YouTube - Abhi Na Jao Chhod Kar - Dev Anand - Sadhana - Hum Dono - Evergreen Bollywood Songs - Jaidev

Yeah we don't crap in the first world; most of us would actually have no idea what that was emanating from Ajmal's backside. Why isn't it roses and rainbows like what happens here? PEWS's retort to Ganeshran on Daemon's picture depicting Ajmal's excreta

The extra 'h' makes it fine IMO. Small but vital difference.

Nah, a number of Indians use "r" as well for that sound. Use both ("chord", for example), personally and I know a lot of people who do.

For some funny reason went back to mid 90's and found this super popular song :

Tu cheez badi hai mast mast

It's a brilliant composition, much better than I earlier realized. Seamless mixing of aalap with rest of the music (I know jack about music itbt). This has a distinct Pakistani / Arabic touch to it. Think it was "inspired" by some foreign music. Could someone tell me which?

I don't think the link is correct mate. It leads me to an unrelated page.

Ah ok. Fixed the link for you. Also, to answer your question, it was "inspired" by a Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan qawali called "Dam Mast Qalander".
