    Yep

BBC News - Gordon Brown 'stepping down as Labour leader'

Removes the biggest obstacle to a Lib-Lab coalition apart from the fact they cannot demand a majority without nationalist support.

The problem is that two parties who lost the election with a new prime minister who was not leader at the time of the election seems pretty undemocratic, however at the same time I am fairly sure that the majority of Lib dem members and indeed voters would rather them do a deal with Labour than the Conservatives.

Still think we will see some sort of Con-Lib agreement if Clegg can sell it to his party, would not be long term for disaster for Labour, if that coaliton struggles and Labour get a new leader with the support of his party then they could be in a reasonable position to fight the next election.

Can't help but think that whoever ends up in government first after all this is doomed, tbh. Might not be a bad thing for the Conservatives if a LibLab coalition forms now it'll probably just force another election six months down the track with a another swing.

    Majority in seats, obviously

A Lab-Lib coalition with another Labour leader going to number ten with no mandate would be a disgrace, maybe we do need electoral reform after all

Apparently coalition governments are significantly less inclined to overspend than majority ones. Certainly true in the past year anyway. I wonder why that is..

Think there is a lot to be said for compulsory voting as well
Compulsory voting is a big no-no in my eyes.. I'm eligible to vote in the UK election if I wanted to, but I didn't even know who Nick Clegg was until yesterday.. Why should I have that right?

Governments are a lot more stable in countries like Belgium where there's more smaller parties. I think perhaps we should try to emulate Belgian goverment here if at all possible.

It's all yuck. The more of this we get, the less inclined I am towards voting reform tbh. It just seems so skanky, the lib dems bartering with two parties at once to try to get the best deal.

Tories have offered the Lib Dems a referendum on introducing AV

Fascinating stuff tbh, distracting me from the cricket

Really? Didn't think they'd go that far tbh. It'll be decided one way or the other today then.
