Mental, the only reasons cameron is suggesting it is he knows that if his vote is split with Ukip he has no chance of winning the next election, but he's taking the risk of seriously ****ing up the country for decades.

Suggestions for questions for the referendum:-

    1. Should the UK leave the EU?
    2. Should the UK bring back hanging?
    3. If yes to 2 which ten offences should it be brought back for?
    4. Should all convicted sex offenders not caught by your answer to 2 above be branded on the forehead, castrated and forced to live on the Isle of Wight?
    5. Should transportation be introduced for all criminals who survive your answer to 2, and if so where to?
    6. Should all current UK citizens who cannot prove their great great great grandparents were born in the UK be deported and if so where to?
    7. Should all people who have claimed benefit for a continuous period of at least six months be sterilised?
    8. Is David Walliams a) heterosexuall, b) homosexual, c) asexual, d) bisexual, e) intersexual f) some other nationality

I think it was that with a combination of his own backbenchers, if half his party were not now convinced that we should leave then I don't think UKIP on its own would have been enough, was before the local election results remember.

It is not a gamble that is going to work either, UKIP are going to wipe the floor with the European elections regardless of what Cameron says, If they have any impact on the general election is of course another matter entirely.

I don't think people really understand what it entails. The political and media coverage of the issue is very one-sided, there's very little actively pro-EU sentiment in the UK.

Yeah exactly. Might as well have a referendum on whether we should pay income tax (though saying that... )

    4. Should all convicted sex offenders not caught by your answer to 2 above be branded on the forehead, castrated and forced to live on the Isle of Wight? See above.
    5. Should transportation be introduced for all criminals who survive your answer to 2, and if so where to? I don't think any would survive.
