The early ones.. The barrel scraping and sexual innuendo that goes on in the latest insults to the series make me feel like I'm watching some sort of yellow porno...

The Simpsons has been ordinary for quite some time now. Another classic case of Americans not knowing when to stop.

Agree with Rich and 16tos here. Newer ones are meh, whereas the old ones have some absolute classics. As for the film that's coming up, i don't hold out much hope of it being any good.

Obviously there's been a slight decline in quality over the years & series (ever decreasing circles & that), but the very first series really sucked arse. It was badly drawn, preachy, sanctimonious gubbins. Staggering to think it was recomissioned for another run.

Was pretty much the world's first ever dramatic cartoon in the first season.

I disagree. Some classic moments like the electric shock family therapy in that series.

I think people are too distracted by the animation and voices in series one, which were still being perfected.

Still better than the **** they are putting out now and at least the likes of Ricky Gervais and Green Day are nowhere to be seen.

Nah. It was cursed with that awful moral sentimentality that ruins so many American sitcoms. The worst offenders (from memory) are the episodes where Homer sees a stripper, Bart gets run over & Homer steals cable. All tied up with nice, cosy, cliched, moralistic payoffs.

Contrast them with later stuff & it's like comparing dog**** to diamonds. My favourite ever line comes from the "Behind The Laughter" episode where Homer says "And that horrible act of child abuse become one of our most beloved running gags". Genius which I'd never have predicted from series one.
