Saverio Rocca? Who is he?

Apparently, he is trying out for the football team I support (the Philadelphia Eagles), and he used to be a player in Aussie Rules Football. I saw an interview, and he says he had been playing there for over a decade but his body was taking a beating and the fact that you pretty much make only $100,000/year (compared to several million you can make as the lowest position in football - punter, if you're any good)..

Anyway, how is his leg, and is he able to take hits? As a punter, hopefully he won't be hit too much but he can't be afraid of contact.

He's a thumping kick, and generally wasn't afraid of contact from what i can remember of big Sav.

You guys sure? Cause one of the tactics they use against punters is to bull rush them to try to get them to flinch. I would hate if a philly punter curled up cause he didn't want a hit.

I assume he can also tackle if he needs to, correct? He won't be asked to do too much (if any) contact give or take, but its always nice to have blockers and guys who won't crap out the kick cause they are afraid of the rush.

Ben Graham joined some NFL team after playing AFL about 2 years ago.

Nah, Sav won't flinch, he'll possibly take the ball and run for a TD instead of punting, just to prove he's no piker.

You gotta understand SS - AFL is a man's game. It's full contact and they don't wear any helmets, pads etc. Sav's put his share of blokes onto a stretcher in his decade in AFL - he wasn't the meanest guy to play aussie rules, but he certainly wasn't afraid of "using his physicality" in the AFL commentators parlance... He was pretty much my favourite player as a young Collingwood fan and could consistently, accurately, kick the ball 60+ metres.

No softie either.

He'll probably find it weird having to put padding and a helmet on. Obviously some of the NFL players are a lot bigger (weight wise), but AFL is a pretty open game and can get hit by anybody, but he wouldn't of been signed up if he were scared.

Here's a link to some YouTube stuff of him and his "little" brother Anthony kicking some huge goals. Sav boots one from well in the centre square - that kick would have travelled something like 80 metres!
