    ***Official Comedy Thread***

First of all, the Melbourne International Comedy Festival is approaching, so I'm looking to go to some stuff. Thought it would be a good idea to post some little youtube clips of comedy stuff [less than 5 mins or so, short and sharp IMO], or talk about gigs you've been to, etc.

Anyways, some help required. So I'm buying a mate a 21st present today. I'm going to buy him 2 tickets to see one of the following comedians:

    Dylan Moran
    Daniel Kitson
    Ross Noble
    Tripod
    Tim Minchin

Each of the sites has a little 5 minute clip from a previous Comedy Festival Gala performance. Worth checking out (especially Tim Minchin's).

The guy loves a bit of musical comedy too, which is why the last two made it in. What recommendations would you make?

At the moment, leaning towards Dylan Moran because the guy is a pretty big Black Books fan. But it's the most expensive, and having as little cash as I do at the moment, was thinking either him or Tim Minchin, who is the cheapest.

Have only heard of and also seen DVDs of Dylan Moran and Ross Noble on that list and Dylan Moran > Ross Noble IMO.

Bill Bailey does a fair load of musical comedy in his shows usually, not my thing though tbh.

Personal favourites are Eddie Izzard (Dress to Kill is his best DVD, Pitt will agree) and Jack Dee (Live at the Apollo likewise) with Jack Dee just edging out Eddie Izzard as the funnier.

Ricky Gervais has gold with Animals and Politics. Many people say the former was better than the latter, but I think they're both excellent.

I should have kept my mouth shut for the next ball - mind you, it was a length ball - Lara just pulled it over the church beyond the boundary! He is a true legend."

Jack Dee is infinitely funnier than Izzard could ever dream of being. Don't rate Ross Noble and Bill Bailey either.

I'm not a huge fan of Noble either, FWIW. Like a poor man's Eddie Izzard without the transvestism.

Bill Bailey's actually really good live, much darker than his telly appearances would suggest.

Haha, yeah, that guy is gold.

Meh, in the end I had to choose between back row seats for Dylan Moran, or getting him first two rows for Ross Noble. I chose the latter.

Thought everyone knew never to get front 2 row seats for comedy. Hope your mate isn't uptight and can laugh at himself.

Dress To Kill rivals Richard Pryor's Live DVD as the best live comedy show around, IMO.
