Icon14 The Ultimate Predator

Been watching heaps of discovery channel lately and decided to ask this question. Which land animal, in a one on one fight, would be the ultimate predator? I know the the fairly conclusive answer, but I wanna see what everyone else thinks. Sean Fuller doesn't count btw, so we're basically looking for 2nd best.

When I was in Africa, there were just two animals that scraed the locals ****less: the elephant and the hippo. Basically, if you stand between a hippo and open water you're already dead, you just don't know it yet.

A straight fight between the two would probably be won by the elephant though, and i'm fairly certain neither of the two would be the least bothered by any lion et al.

Which is probably not the answer you're looking for, so I'll go for that Liger that was posted here recently. Looks damn fierce.

Sorry, didn't make it very clear. I meant carnivores. Hippos would dominate pretty much everything though. I won't count Ligers either as they are pretty much just captive animals, therefore not use to fighting, killing etc.

I'm picking the Giganotosaurus or Spinosaurus.

Really depends on terrain etc tbh.

The Liger is a good pick, a male weighing in at 500 odd Kg, however male Ligers are sterile, which is damning, and I think disqualifies them from the tourney. Then the next largest big cat is the Amur Tiger (Siberian). The Saltwater Crocodile however can come in at a hefty 1200kg, which is staggering. However it's amphibiousness may rule it out? Green Anacondas or Reticulated Pythons come in at impressive sizes, so you can't rule them out.

Toss-up between the hippo, rhino and elephant for mine.

Buddhy, is this inspired by the Steve Leonard show? That man used to go to my school.
