The part about the local businessmen shooting at the Mexicans 'cause there were too many immigrants was kinda funny. And people wonder why parts of the South are so derided.

Yup, and packing up my bags for California as we speak! Just kidding. I live in Dallas, Texas. The larger cities of Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio) are pretty much similar to most large cities in the United States. Meaning people are generally not carrying guns or displaying the "we don't call 911" signs on their properties. It's the rural/small town areas you have to worry about. Sure Texas is deeply conservative and the gun lobby is very popular here, but it's not as extreme as it's portrayed in the media. The legislator is a nut and this law won't pass.
