    Computer Problem/Question - Seeking Help

I recently just got a new laptop, and I've noticed an odd thing occuring. Whenever I open my C-drive through 'my computer' and what not, some random folders have been created with weird names, such as '3b35aa98d641f1c2bde3445f'. When I open the folder, it has a random text document with an equally random filename, and when I open the file a whole lot of stuff that looks like a logging of some sort appears.

I wanted to see if these folders were important to anything, so I deleted them, but new ones keep appearing. Here are a couple of screenshots to show what I'm referring to:

Any ideas where the hell they are coming from? Help much appreciated

That's what you get for using Limewire. Lol just playing.

My first guess would be your computer was showing hidden files, but it doesn't seem that way.

Run a virus scan, and a spyware scan, see if anything pops up.

I'd say since your computer is still new and probably you don't have much on it, format it and see if it still happens.

Yeah its definitely not showing hidden folders and files, that option is turned off.

Have run all virus and spyware scans, nothing has been picked up. Would it have anything to do with Limewire? Mind you I haven't even used that program since I got the laptop, only installed it, yet the folders keep being created.

I'll try and use formatting/recovery as a last resort.

    Thanks anyway Dravid.

I get random files appearing in "My Recent Documents" all the time. I suspect Limewire tbh.

On further inspection I have the exact same folder in the C folder. It's probably been in there for ages and hasn't hurt me yet. Norton does a scan every Friday night so I reckon it's safe. Will let you know if my computer starts acting up.

I get those weird named folders all the time but not from Limewire as I don't have it installed.

Mine are on my external HD and I believe they're corrupted files from me switching it on and off when things are being used on it. Not sure it's applicable to you because I couldn't actually delete mine though.

Get rid of Limewire, it's riddled with all kinds of fungi anyway.

I get those files too, and it's not related to Limewire as I don't have it.

It's Windows XP's log. Perfectly safe.

It's like a boot record for every XP session, I think. They're meant to be there.

it has something to do with the windows installer service - msiexec.exe

    What is msiexec.exe?
Msiexec.exe is the Windows Installer Service. It's normally started when you install a new program, and can often be left running afterwards. It may start automtically on reboot in some cases where the installation process has indicated that a reboot was required, or the installation failed to complete successfully.
