    Living Icons

There's been a feature on The Culture Show in the UK to decide on the UK's greatest living icon. Sir David Attenborough won it from Morrisey and Sir Paul McCartney in the last three - the top ten was

    Attenborough
    Morrisey
    McCartney
    David Bowie
    Michael Caine
    Stephen Fry
    Kate Bush
    Alan Bennett
    Kate Moss
    Vivienne Westwood.

Was an interesting feature, what changes would people make to that list? What would an Australian list look like and other countries top tens?

    Let's think:

    The Queen (obv)
    McCartney
    Beckham (sad, but true)
    Michael Caine
    Sean Connery
    Robert Smith
    Morrissey
    Judi Dench
    John Cleese
    Albert Finney

EDIT: Actually I'd have Sir Anthony Hopkins beneath McCartney. Totally forgot him.

"as much a news event as an actual footballer, a worthy stop-start centre forward, but an all-time hyper-galactico when it comes to doing funny things with cars and hats, a player whose signing proves once again that the Premier League is still undoubtedly the best in the world when it comes to doing things with cars and hats."

I was more going on a "global recognition" sort of vibe. Rowling's name would be known, but not so convinced about her face.

Well most wouldn't recognise Attenborough would they? Or am I doing the world an injustice?

I guess I went on world recognition of the name and an instant association with what they do for a living.

I'd say his brother Dickie should be up there as well.

I think you are. Everyone knows that nature programs are just people trying to copy Attenborough.

As for other countries' top tens...can't make ours, on account of the list having about one member.
