'Friendly Town' rejects refugees

Full story

Saw the story on Today Tonight (was eating dinner downstairs and my family where watching it) and they also showed a past interview with Canadian Academic and White Australia Advocate Andrew Fraser going on some racist spiel about African and Sub-Subharian immerigrants (one gem was that they had nothing to offer to the community and the increase of diseases') and for other gems look here.

If I had a son like that I would take him out the back and knock some sense back into him.

Big controversy in South Africa because your Pauline Hanson woman said Australia didn't want South Africa's diseased blacks pouring into the country.. (Think that was how she said it as well).. There must be about 50 black South Africans in the whole of Australia, very few of them I expect have AIDS

Best thing about the cricket, besides the cricket itself, is that heaps of Australian's can't watch A Current Affair.

Haha yeah. How bad does that story look that they're going to show though-- a dad backhands his teenage daughter, and they take his side!

Hope the report mentioned that we all think Hanson's a knob who should still be in jail...

"Reflective of the views of many Australians" apparently.. Although that may be her words.

She didn't say it in the terms you suggested, but that is basically what she meant...did your news say it was 'reflective of the views of many Australians' or did ours? I think 'Pauline Hanson is an complete idiot' is more reflective of the the views of many Australians.

Out of curiosity, what angle was Today Tonight taking in presenting these two stories together? It sounds like a new low.

The story itself is rather strange. The mayor seems caught between a rock and a hard place, given his comments seem critical of the fuss on the one hand, but then curiously defensive of it on the other. In any case, it's good to know that we can expect all immigrants for a particular region/country to act exactly the same when it comes to dangerous driving and raping and pillaging.

I feel sorry for a lot of migrants dropped into such a situation - it's policy to establish new immigrants in rural areas to try and counter the move from those places to the city, and even as a skilled migrant, your chances of being accepted are greatly enhanced if you are willing to settle in one of these struggling regions. Given that in many of these places, it's felt that there aren't enough jobs/opportunities to go round (and one of the first targets when it comes to who to blame for this is rightly or wrongly migrants), it's not the most welcoming of situations.
