Can a Mod maybe chage the title to "The Next Place"?

We will be in Sofia for over a year yet but we need to start thinking about what to do next. We could obviously stay longer or move back to the States but we dont fancy either, though both wouldnt be the end of the World.

This is what I want in the next place
    - Hot
    - Cheap reliable domestic help
    - Not congested
    - Cricket
    - Safe
    - Near UK for family to visit
    - Good socal life and drinking
    - Cheap groceries and cost of living

    (bolded are priority)

Now I know that its impossible to find a fit for all of them. Im looking for ideas as I cant find anything that is close. eg Nairobi looked ok until I checked it out an it isnt safe IMO.

    Ideas?

Do you mean "anywhere-anywhere" or "anywhere your company will let you go"? You've certainly seen a fair bit of the world Kev, fair play.

Not all places are available. Im hoping if someone makes a good suggestion that isnt a posibility then I can try and look for someting similar that can be done.

Title edited. I suggest the West Indies.

Yeah, I thought that too. However, nowhere is really safe and its very expensive as evrything is imported.

Apart from the safe and near UK part, is Pretoria an option again? I'm going back in October, would be good to see you..

Basically, anywhere around the med fits all your criteria? Greece/Cyprus/Tunisia? Cricket is not a viable suggestion if you want to be close to the UK

Whats wrong with Cyprus anyway? I know the Turkish and Greek divide, but it's not like rampantly criminal or packed full of bombs is it?

Slovenia, I would highly reccomend. Cheap as chips, lovely people, pretty safe and near the UK. Bovec is a great place.

So by "safe" we mean "not in a civil war"?

Haha, every single bolded list would be met in a place like India. But it would get a -10000 score on the 'congested' criteria. But your standard of living could be very high, considering a full time driver would cost about $80/month in a medium city, and less for other types of help. You wouldn't enjoy it though. Even I don't enjoy living there anymore, and I was born there! Too hot and humid, and way too congested.

West Indies is a good option. Cheapness depends on what kind of money you get paid in. Safety, maybe one of the smaller islands. Would impinge on the social life but depends on your definition of safe.

One of the places I would least like to go to in the world.. No offence.. Apart from the cricket, I doubt I could tolerate anything there.. Hope I'm being ignorant about it and it's not actually as bad as I think it is..

At the moment I'm trying to convince Goughy about Namibia.. Hot, fairly safe, quiet, cricket. One hour in the plane from SA.. Fantastic country that nobody cares much about, my type of place..
