Obviously going hard on national security is something the Liberals do, but actions like this always increase the polls, and they are fully aware of that.
I actually agree that the MH17 presser had a lot to do with what you're saying.

I'm sure they're aware it's helping them but I'll put it this way - I think they'd have been reacting in this way regardless of what the polls said or what the reaction to the budget was. Their primary motivation is pretty pure in that they believe in this stuff.

"Tolerance is a critical value in a western liberal democracy like Australia. It was for this reason that I intended to address the World Congress of Families meeting in Melbourne tomorrow," Mr Andrews said in the statement.
"The calls for me not to attend demonstrate the intolerance of the Greens and the left - instead of arguing their case in the public arena they seek to shut down debate."
"Equally, I cannot support intolerance from other quarters. As I have been informed today that the event is now to be hosted by Catch the Fire, I have decided not to attend."

Yeah alright Kevin, just came to light of course.

Interesting piece. Always like Hartcher's pieces, whether I disagree or agree. Reckon he's a good writer.

I actually did not know Hartcher was "International editor" ftr, just thought he was Political editor.

In 1943, 10 Australian soldiers were executed by beheading on the same day

The info was kept under wraps for decades and still isn't publicised widely for fear of repercussions against the Japanese

Divide the country in 3. One for Kurds, one for Sunni and one for Shi'ite... too simple and unrealistic though

And therein lies the problem; just about everyone commenting on the issue is too far removed from it to have any serious idea of what's happened, what's happening or what's likely to happen.

Can't see how it'd get any worse? Just watch it do exactly that whether the US knocks IS on the head or not.
