I'm of the firm opinion that the anti-Rudd bickering from the right will be massive once he takes office.

Anyways agree with the Sky guy that Howard's press conference today was over-negative, went on the attack too early and came off as a tad bitter.

Just hope Rudd doesn't stuff this up - if I have to put up with another 18 months of that lying weasel of a man as PM, I'll go troppo...

Seriously considering getting citizenship quickly so I can vote if there would be time. John Howard would have my vote. Despite all the ALP and Union bickering about WorkChoices, personally it has been a good thing for me in that I have earned so much and work less hours.

    Agreed. Europe > Australia.

    Agreed. Europe > Australia.
In that case, I wouldn't bother getting citizenship

I thought his mandarin stretched as far as "simultaneous s" but wasn't much use in conversation.

So it's finally on. My poor wife is all I'll say for now. She already says I'm obsessed by this election. The fact that I woke up last Wednesday morning at 4.15 a.m. after a nightmare where Howard was returned with a 6 seat majority probably lends some credence to her claims.
Still, it's going to be fun and I think it's going to be the most competitive election since 1998.

The debate looks like it will be next Sunday.

I think Howard wants to have it early so people, when they cast their vote five weeks later, will have forgotten about the flogging that he routinely is dealt out in these things! I always think they're fairly tedious affairs with not enough interaction/dialogue between the leaders.

Yeah I think most lovers of politics would agree that Australian electoral debates are generally garbage. I'd love debates regardless of how well Howard went in them if they were decently run and involved a bit more actual debate and more interesting issues, but sadly they are always boring, manufactured drivel with little actual discussion. Still it'll be fun watching Rudd wipe the floor with Howard.

Yeah, it should be like in America where an independent body sets the parameters, and where there are different formats - eg town hall etc. This thing next Sunday will be little more than a tarted up press conference.
