Meanwhile, Sophie Mirabella has been appointed to the Australian Submarine Corporation.

Focus upon areas where we have a comparative advantage is one obvious solution

For example, Oz is surrounded by oceans rich in marine life and we have some of the world's most efficient fishing fleets

However, a ridiculously high % of our seafood exports are processed O/S and sold back to us - that is almost as nonsensical as thinking that subsidizing a foreign-owned car manufacturer to the tune of tens of millions of dollars a year is a good idea

Try hundreds of millions. Basically a way of getting tax payers to pay unionists to donate to the alp to advertise how great they are.

I saw a disturbing documentary last week it was called UTOPIA. It was the work of the great John Pilger, has it aired in Australia?

    Yeah but not widely.

I've personally observed a near total drop-out of Nunga presence in the media and politics over the past 10 or so years, stuff like the camp on Rottnest used to be fairly common knowledge so, really, the shocking part about Pilger's doco is that people are finding this shocking (of the small number who are actually hearing about it again). There's a sense, I think, that this **** has all been solved when, in some ways, it's worse than it ever was. Am talking about problems with urban Nungas here too, not just in far-flung places. I'm not quite sure how I feel about INTER in totality because it's an enormously complex problem, as is Aboriginal disadvantage in general, the Stolen Gen, deaths in custody, etc. But none of it gets any coverage whatsoever these days when, for a long time, was pretty big news. As dysfunctional and corrupt as employees of the state and federal ATSICs were, at least there was someone agitating and I don't think the drop in the number of Nunga faces in the press and ATSIC's demise is a coincidence. Pilger can be a bit prone to hyperbole but I think it's good he's doing this.

It doesn't matter mate, they're not really people. They're subhuman scum who come across the oceans to threaten our very existence.

The island’s hospital has a machine but the doctors say there are rarely specialists available who know how to use it. Ultrasonographers visit the island only every few months and, according to the doctors, they “cater primarily for local residents”.
This is absolutely damning. Prenatal US is not a rare or exotic procedure. Telling someone they should lower their expectations is telling them to lower their expectations to almost pre-war medicine.
