He puts 3/4 of the ****s in Parliament to shame. A man of conviction and purpose.

He obviously has his own account of events during his time as Treasurer which Hawke will disagree with. And he is clearly an incredibly arrogant man, but he knew how the economy worked and also how to communicate his economic reforms to the public. He is very dismissive of Hawke and he'll never give Hawke the credit he is due, but that's a personal issue. The fact is their conflict never hurt the country or the party as much as Rudd/Gillard did. They got **** done - "the show must go on" as Keating said.

This spy thing could really damage Abbott in the long run, in the sense that without cooperation from Indonesia, the boats can't be stopped - one of the key planks of Abbott's platform

The only reason I can think of for him not dropping this right on Rudd is that they must still be doing it.

Yeah I'm surprised in the month or so that Tony Abbott has been in power that the whole world hasn't crumbled at the hands of climate change

By the time Rudd phoned Swan to ask his treasurer for support, Swan had concluded it was all over. “It's gone too far. If it's going to be done, it's best that it's done as cleanly and quickly as possible.”

Rudd later damned Swan with the epithet “treacherous cardboard”. Asked how cardboard could be treacherous, Rudd would reply, “exactly”.

That is my favourite part of Hartcher's series of reporting on the Rudd/Gillard breakdown.

With the English bid I said: Let us be brief. If you give back the Falkland Islands, which belong to us, you will get my vote. They then became sad and left

He needs to be doing more than he currently is.

Saying things to SBY like "it happened four years ago, under a previous Government, and it will not happen in the future"

Just expressing regret is too little.

Even go over there with Shorten and have a face to face meeting
