Can't see Albo getting it, he's from the Left and pretty left-wing he is.

I think Swan might be a good choice personally. Problem is, plenty of other figures which would work (Crean, Smith) are all retiring.

Labour probably need to put this leadership stuff to bed by picking a new guy and sticking with him

Rather, they need a unifying, respected figure and someone who the party can rally around in the dark initial years of opposition

Albanese fits that bill. He also has good cut-through and will be able to exploit the new Government's early mis-steps and any broken pledges
I dunno if Albanese is a unifying figure internally...

given the new rules will probably mean the new leader takes awhile to get elected, i can see Albanese as a caretaker during that period but that's about it

This is the problem with Abbott. It's not that he's a Tory (though that's reason enough for any decent human being not to vote for him, of course), it's that he's mad. By mad, I don't mean a bit upset or angry, I mean bat**** insane.

this has been so bull****, Abbott has the media on his side so he has been able to avoid too much criticism about not announcing his costings and not enough scrutiny has been placed on his policy, yet now he will just announce it quietly in the blackout and the dumb**** people will vote for him anyway.

Clive Palmer has assembled a 'personality' party better suited to running a football team than a country. They won't win, but if they did it would be a very good time to leave the country.

Apparently...but we're ****ing idiots over here mate. If they'd published an article in the paper saying we'd won The Ashes, greater than 50% would believe it without bothering to check the facts.
