One thing that is attracting quite a few people to teaching is that, you know what you're going to be when you decide to choose that course. A lot of people get stuck doing these degrees that don't really prepare them to enter the workplace, and find themselves lost at the end, or halfway through it. People like the certainty that they know what they'll be doing at the end of it, what they should be applying for.
Sadly its kinda hard to give out zeros in math. Generally if they've written something down its right enough to not get 0 as they often don't have the balls to put down complete crap.
I've got some comments on school level education but I might come back to it later when I oraganise my thoughts.
And for those who think it's easy, adult students are a pain in the arse a fair amount of the time, I can't imagine standing in a class full of kids who don't give a **** (actually, I can, I did it in Korea, was ****ed).
I think the main problem with being a teacher is that in Australia the prevailing attitude is that "nobody works harder than I do". Usually the ****s going around telling everyone about it are doing **** all themselves.

this at the moment. We don't have the same culture of standardised testing as in the US, of course, but it's still here.
