Yes, look at that all that horrible debt in comparison to everyone else...

The way we've treated this issue as a nation has been, at best, childish and, at worst, economically flat-out illiterate. There is nothing particularly wrong with having a small amount of debt during a downturn.

Get this bloke. what Alan doesnt tell him, Ray does.

Whitlam's legacy:

Ended involvement in Vietnam
Initiated trade with China
Medibank (Medicare)
The Trade Practices Act
The Family Law Act
The National Gallery
The first acknowledgment of indigenous land rights.

I realise they're all peripheral issues that haven't endured, but hey....

And I see you're an "Ermagerd! A deficit!" fella.

No one said it was. That includes Tony.

I'm talking about people who illegally enter the country by boat. You're thinking about something else.

Oh great. We're good bcos we haven't reached the status of Eurozone basket case - yet. No need to get off that track. I mean the train hasn't hit us yet. When it does, its like - "Who saw that comin' huh?"

Look good luck defending Whitlam. Yeah thanks for the medicare now lets find someone who can manage it. He oversaw the growth of govt we are still regretting. Plus the small matter of screwing over the economy and the contempt for governance procedures. And then the hide to complain about the matter of his dismissal. Funny guy.

Australia was well placed to weather the GFC. Better than most other nations due to the state of govt finances and the strength of commodities. You are kidding yourselves if you think Rudd's stimulus was other than a **** and therefore self pleasuring. It was ill directed , left nothing worthwhile and destroyed the govt's financial position. In fact Rudd did such a great job that his own party knifed him. Without even a misstep the alp rusted ons went from boosting Rudd to rooting for his assassin! And never lets speak of this Rudd person again. Except when you want to trash talk him! You guys are comically funny.

Oh yeah I just recalled: Did one of you guys say that the illegal boat trade is impossible to stop?

If you said under labour I'd agree.

You basically machine gunned random sort of funny posts in between serious discussion with graphs and talk of refugees. It was something to behold.
