Not sure even Drew could save the ALP.

I legitimately could not disagree with this post more if I tried. Whitlam's lasting legacy on Australia is immeasurable. Definitely a one-term PM, however. He was spending too much to go on any longer.

And then Rudd really wasn't that bad. I thought he handled the GFC well and rather sensibly, and he made some symbolic moves socially.

Whitlam's legacy was shocking and Rudd's failure to manage spending saw the blow out in the deficit and his policies on illegal immigration, taxation reform and global warming were humanitarian, administrative and ideological blunders of comedic proportions.

Medicare, ending conscription and Vietnam involvement, Equal Pay for Equal Work, anti-discrimination legislation, end of the death penalty, legal aid, sewerage systems for all, flood prevention, a better education system (abolishing fees was unrealistically utopian, but still).

Yes, that's shocking. Let's go back to the days when Cabramatta didn't have sewers, and women got paid even less than they do now.

Even I will admit that giving him a second term was ludicrous.

Obviously someone doesn't believe in stimulus, despite the obvious economic advantages of it (like, y'know, coming out of a global recession better than anyone else). The tax reform seems a tad dumb, yeah, point conceded. Illegal immigration isn't exactly simple to solve; nobody can realistically stop the boats when we've got such a high standard of living compared to anyone else in the region (and the world), and let's not even go into climate change denial. Even if it somehow, despite all scientific evidence, turns out to not be happening, what's the worst we've done? Reduced the amount of **** we're breathing in? Yep, that's comical.

Simply, it's a sad situation where the Libs know that they don't even have to put themselves up to scrutiny to win an election.

Like, hypothetically, lets say that their own internal costings tell them that they are no chance of producing a surplus. It doesn't matter, just don't release them and say that you can, and they will win the election. God, just don't do costings, and they will win it; why know information that you don't want to know!

That's not the Libs fault, ftr, but their electoral strategy right now can be to do absolutely as little as possible, and they will win.
