Internet filter dropped. Thank god. Dumb policy to start with. About four years later than they should have.

Yeh, indeed. The idea will be back in some form, though. I know the bloke pretty well who was probably the biggest name on the 'nay' side, Mark Newton, and he's not taking it for granted that this ****fight is over.

Conroy's crew really over-stepped their bounds on this issue. Mark was working at an ISP at the time (Internode) and made a controversial (not in a legal sense) comment on Whirlpool about the filter. A rep from Conroy's team called Internode and tried to get them to sack him for it. Not only did Internode tell them to GAGF, they released a public statement saying what had happened and that Mark had their full support on freedom of speech terms. Seriously, this **** actually happened.

Conroy's such an odd fish. The NBN is the biggest project/ policy the government has and he seems all over the detail (as he should be) yet he completely ballsed up the attitude towards the filter.

I suspect there was a bit of bowing and scraping to the Shoppies going on there tbh.

Yeah but, fundamentally, it simply won't do what it's supposed to do. Leaving aside (if you can) all freedom of speech ra ra, it's not just bad policy but terrible tech.

Anyone see this?

Couple of months after the last election, the heads of 2 of Telstra's biggest competitors were interviewed about the NBN

Basically they said that although their companies were going to make ****-loads from it (due to lower access costs than existing network) it was crap policy as tech and roll-out plans were both faulty

What's faulty about the technology? Have they found something faster than light?

One man's legacy lost in dust

One of the casualties of Labor slashing government-funded research?

With the excellent Devils Dust mini series on ABC1, lets hope this incident gets a good run...

Being sick and being a Labor stooge are not mutually exclusive

Newspoll 51-49 to the Tories.

Abbott now the least popular LOTO since Newspoll began. Lower ratings than Turnbull when he was rissoled.

Tick.

Tock.
