I'm still not entirely convinced that that's not some horrible typo and it there's hasn't actually been a fifty point swing in approval ratings.

By Nielsen's standards it's good though - their numbers are typically leaning towards the opposition.

Our MD is seeing opportunity despite the debate over the boom coming to an end:

Some good stats (capital investment in the resources sector):

93-99: 40 billion
99-05: 20 billion
05-11: 166 billion

Since 2011 and projected ahead 3-5 years:

Best case: 443 billion
Worst case: 252 billion.

Quote:
Current Market/Opportunities –Despite general media talk of the resources boom coming to an end, the real situation is that Australia still has a record investment in resources projects approved and yet to be spent, about $250 Billion. As it is the country will find it hard to execute this many projects in the next 3-5 years, let alone more new ones, so the steam coming off the market might actually help balance supply and demand for materials and labour in the Australian economy as far as resource projects go.
It's a bit **** with Olympic Dam, as we like every company in SA have had to cut back. We've lost 3 engineers and 20 fitter/sparkies/welders etc who had 2 years of solid work to deliver. WA will take up the slack for now.

It's all about creating jobs people...unless it's about giving people the sack.

How good is the job market going to be in QLD over the next year or so!? On a positive note, you may get less dead****s holding down positions. Oh wait, he's giving public servants the sack isn't he.
The QLD gov't is broke

I wonder if Anthony Mason opened a file when he provided John Kerr with advice in the months leading up to the Dismissal...

For a start the federal government needs to fix the GST to increase the base and thus revenue to the states. Unfortunately it has been inefficient levies and fines that have been used to collect income which just means more churn in collection, and in the case of public transport, increasing tickes simply reduces demand once the optimal revenue price is exceeded.
