Haha, compare Abbott floundering under 12 minutes of pre-recorded interview with one journo and Gillard standing in front of the assembled press for an hour 15 minutes, answering everything and not taking a backward step.

He's not up to it. Not because of his views, he simply lacks the mental ability to go beyond a slogan. He's been on such a tight leash for so long he has not the first idea how to go beyond the jingoistic schtick. Plus he has an incredible glass jaw too.

Not PM material. Keating, right in 2010, right now.

As I recall Keating publically disgraced himself by comparing Howard to Hitler.

Although Godwin trolls are usually ignored.

Keatin'g best anti-Howard rant was when he said he used to know Howard when he had his own teeth, pre-80s make over courtesy of the Liberal Party, and used to speak without spraying everyone.

Seems like a good period for the ALP. More confident we can pull this out of the fire.

I stand by my prediction made in the middle of 2011. If the election is in the latter half of 2013 when it's scheduled, and it's Gillard v Abbott, Labor will win by between 6 to 10 seats. People aren't stupid, they know he's got a few 'roos loose in the top paddock.

Nah no way. Not Gillard's biggest fan by any stretch but she's better than the alternative so I'd obviously rather your prediction turn out to be right Burgey, but can't see it happening myself. Very pessimistic.

Haha, yeah Tony did well didn't he. I was also referring to the fact BHP didn't say the carbon tax was the reason either.

Nah Jono, Abbott's shot his bolt mate. He's firing blanks now on the carbon tax, and it's all he's got. He keeps on barking but the caravan's moved on. He knows it, so does Credlin, who gives him his lines.

The great thing is they really have to stick with him. If it gets to a point where the polls narrow to 51-49 or 50-50 then they'll get nervous because they're completely poll driven, but who can they replace him with? No one else can do the brain dead act as convincingly as him (largely because he's not acting) and if they want to go to someone more moderate they piss off the Convoy of Incontinence base which he's energized.

Anyway, we wait and see.

Heard an interview an hour ago with the bloke who heads the Roxby Council, couldn't be less worried about BHP's decision. Business as usual for the town in most ways (only contractors there for the expansion will be seriously affected), they realise it was a market-driven decision, saw it coming and fully expect BHP has just delayed it until the market conditions for copper improves. Academic at Adelaide Uni was on the radio saying pretty much the same thing, agreeing with Klopper in about every respect.

Nothing in it, Abbott's an idiot if he stays on this one.

Even Lord Downer of Baghdad wrote a piece praising the SA government on its efforts to get the project up and said the federal taxes have nothing to do With it.
