Perfect politics. The current threshold for FIRB review of a State owned foreign corporation investing in Australia is $1.00, so nothing will change. But it lets them be seen to be looking after the "battlers" and do a bit of cheer chasing with their redneck base.

Australia consumes something like just 30% of what we produce

We need foreigners

Foreigners are good

It's the small countries (like us) that benefit from foreign investment, from free trade etc
