Gillard hosting a childcare summit? What would she know
Now, if we leave aside redheads with a huge salmon who waddle like a duck, talk stangely, have no interests outside of politics, are unmarried and childless, and who have the reverse midas touch, is there anybody out there who can relate to this person?

You mean she's out of touch?

the fact she can have me killed without anyone knowing and I can't have her killed with anyone knowing makes it hard to relate to her too
There has to be some sort of connection between a long-term leader and the electorate - whether it's a grudging respect etc. Howard had it, Hawke had it. Rudd had it briefly. With Gillard, there's no sense of connection at all. That, on top of her ruthlessness and whatever-it-takes to cling to power image, means she's no hope of pulling this back.
She's tough as teak. Abbott knows it, he's said as much. No leader since Fraser has had as much hysterical abuse hurled at them as she has. People will come to respect that, grudgingly or otherwise.
