Something of a watershed (pun intended) moment in the Reps right now.

Geez I might miss the first 10 minutes of the news tonight then. Watching politicians cry in parliament, not my taste.

That's what you get for appointing a female PM. Emotional head cases.

Unless they're named Maggie Thatcher.

Only caught the end of Swan's speech but it was well put by a compasionate Queenslander.

Truss had a few good things to say in his speech.

1) The value of local ABC radio for the communities during the floods, local knowledge of what roads are open and where to go etc.
2) The bottlenecks in the current warning system across the state and the delay of relevant data to residents
3) The need for an integrated monitoring system, issues such as 'out of service' and 'unreachable' river measurement equipment caused headaches in response to the floods.
4) Dealing now with the movement away of local community doctors as they look for an income.

Seems all to fit in well with the rationale behind the NBN and each of the above could be helped by such a system. Although wireless comms would struggle to hold up under rain and windy conditions, a wide area SCADA network (without knowing the full details) for these outstations is perhaps excellent response to the current floods. Put the management out to a private contractor to ensure that over the years people don't become complacent.

Personally I felt that Abbott was totally wrong.

The response he deserved was a punch in the face. Seven proving once again what a high-class network it is

Not cool or funny.

Personally don't see what the big deal is with this. The media clearly went OTT with a simple comment that Abbott made whilst trying to be supportive and he was right in having a go at them.

The 23 second stare was truly bizarre but I don't mind him being passive aggressive in that situation. The man is complete scum. It's not like Julie Bishop death staring a member of a television audience.
