Peter Debnam has decided not to stand again for the leadership.

T'was a bit surprising, but he just didn't want the party competiting against itself.

haha, heard that the NAB in Bundaberg closed due to the Tsunamai warnings, quite amusing considering the NAB in bundaberg is at least 30kms away from the ocean.

Well it didn't compete all that well against anyone else, did it?

How cool re. the NAB in Bundaberg closing due to the Tsunami warning when it's 30km from the ocean? See, that's a rare example of Australian ingenuity. I bet when they closed it all the staff went straight to a beach side pub for lunch!!

The manager probably lives on the beach and wanted to get home and pick up some stuff.

I have been to Bundaberg and spent two weeks there and tbh if I had to do it again I would probably consider suicide and IIRC it isn't that far, about 15km but I could be wrong (and I know where the NAB branch is), there is a river near it though, but that is down a embankment.

Latest polls have Labor making clear gains in key marginal federal seats. Anyone think that they will get in, or will Howard hold on?

I'd love to believe that Howard is finally on his way out, but I think the rodent'll come up with some stupid issue, probably about Muslims, that'll galvanise support for him and he'll be here to stay forever.

I've said it before, and i'll say it again, it's not Rudd thatt scares me, it's the likes of Peter Garrett behind him that do. Rudd will most likely win though

If Labor can't get elected now then they never will I guess. Obviously I know I'm stating the bloody obvious.

That said I can't complain too much who gets elected as until I put my money where my mouth is, I can't vote.

Hmmm. Alan Jones found guilty of being a racist ****head (as if we needed anyone to tell us that), and John Howard backs him - "he is a person who articulates what a lot of people think". Can we please get rid of Howard this time?

Rudd backed him too. Not like Howard did mind you, but Rudd clearly doesn't want to displease the Jones fans.

Disappointing.

Yeah very disappointing. At least Rudd didn't come out and support what he said...he basically said he'd continue to appear on Jones' show (which is bad enough). I always struggle to understand how such bigoted thinking has become mainstream in the past decade or so...if the opposition leader is afraid to come out strongly against someone like Alan Jones, there are some serious problems.

Not following the recent developments much, but from memory there was definitley a case for charging Jones under the new sedition laws back then. Needless to say, if the exact same words were said by someone on the other 'side', if the roles were reversed, that person would be in jail for a very, very long time.
