Totally agree. It's even more baffling when you consider the context of the interview. His performance was always going to be compared to Rudd's ridiculous display last week, so all Abbott had to do was get through it without saying anything stupid. The headlines would have contrasted Abbott's poise against Rudd losing the plot and scored Tony some points.

How effective do you think the late-in-the-campaign "Abbott=WorkChoices" advertisements will be now that they can add Abbott apparently admitting to the world that you can't believe what he says?

Abbott needs to realise that his best chance to win this thing is to be as bland and unremarkable as possible.
Yep, should just stand by and allow the ALP to continue their downward spiral

Unfortunately for the Libs, he's not that smart

Love that man. What an attention to detail he has.
Will have to watch it online tonight. Tanner seems to be one of the few politicians (that I've heard anyway) that doesn't stutter and gag his way through a reply as if he's trying to remember all the things he shouldn't say.

Have no time for Hockey really but he is funny at times with his replies on Q and A, which is more than you can say for most. Get sick of the little catch-phrases he comes up with and repeats over and over again though.

Oh, he was. Both were outstanding and I think this was the best Q&A in a long long time. However Tanner really shone in his attention to detail and his subtle mixing of message and information.

So our choices this year are between an angry coward and someone who does not believe what he says.

I'm staggered by Hockey today. I don't know who was responsible for that decision - a staffer perhaps - but that is an extraordinary political misjudgement.

So they're saving the money by cancelling the NBN, and presumably simply never doing anything to assist dragging our ICT infrastructure into the 21st century, by cancelling the Mining Super Profit Tax and the associated measures (although I didn't see anywhere on that chart where it showed the loss of the tax income that measure would provide), and by "not replacing retiring public servants" (so when the Secretary of Treasury, for instance, retires, they're not going appoint a new one, or they're not going to hire a new grad on $40k a year?, reckon that measure will have more holes that really holely item personally.)

Not really what you'd call a lot of actual detail on what they will do - they're just saying that they're not going to do.

Jeez Red Kerry's been taking his vitamins over the last couple of weeks. Was feeling a bit sorry for Aussie Joe by the end of that... Love the term "gross savings"

Just ridiculous. Don't see how it reflects on his ability to do his job tbh.

Also can't help but wonder if this would have been news if it was a heterosexual sauna.
