Spies let me down.

I always think state elections are decided on state issues. The only federal implication, to my mind, from yesterday was going to be momentum for the Straight Talker if the Libs had won in SA. It would have dovetailed nicely into the current narrative. As it was, I got home in time to see some of Redmond's speech. The mystery to me was how she got so close- she looked and sounded shocking last night. That was the first time I'd had an opportunity to run my finely tuned political eye over her lol, and I was far from impressed.

Anyway, well done to Will Hodgman. From all reports, he will be Tasmania's next Premier. This will make it harder for Rudd to get his health package through at COAG. I think he'd like COAG to end in tears though, which would allow him to go the Election as Mr Fix-it.

Good to see everyone admitting that if the SA election was held based on proper issues and the performance of the state then Rann would have romped it in. The amount of traction that the Chantellois drama got was farcicle. The fact that people thought Redmond was ready was also a farce.
A massive swing in the seat of Adelaide suggests otherwise. It was easy to keep your nose clean when Howard was PM, now people are questioning what Rann has actually deilivered other than a lot of announcements, given the mining boom revenue the states have been coasting off for years.

DWTA a bit, the Rann/Chanteloise issue clearly got to the electorate. The general feeling seems to be one of anti-Labor rather than pro-Libs because, stripped down, they're not terribly divergent in their promises.

Hate that it was such a big issue. One of the real positives of the election, though, was that Atkinson has quit the front bench. Victory for G4C and, ultimately, common sense, tbh.

Yeah, it's great to see Atkinson step away, hopefully a generational change will work it's way through to the front bench.

I think the Rann/Chanteloise issue was big because Rann was lying and it would have been shot down quickly had there been little substance, he simply could have taken legal action against her surely.

I think he's still contesting that bit.

Yar, think so. Has a fairly ordinary rep in gov circles for that sort of behaviour, tbh.

I'm disappointed in the format of the debate tomorrow.

It's a statement from each of the leaders, followed by questions from a panel of ten journalists.

It appears as though there will be little interaction between the leaders.

Abbott Wins Toss and Sends Rudd In

Hopefully, in that case, she's a greentop which flattens out later.
